Friendship Blooming Like a Rose

Today I had coffee with Liela…my special friend. We went to Tribeccas on our University Campus. As always, our coffee date didn’t disappoint. I haven’t seen her in a month so doing some catch up time like this is a whole session of DMCs. Anyway, it was great chatting and catching up.

Campus is extremely peaceful this time of year with exams and all, and so beautiful in the summer time with the trees and flowers, so our setting was perfect.

Obviously, I got to chat to her sharing deep stories and where I am at now. As soon as exams are done, it will be a more peaceful time for her to spend with Yvotte, which I am extremely happy about. And at the same time, I am busy moving into a more peaceful season in my life now. We spoke for ages about what is happening in our lives and what we’re doing next year. I am so grateful to have her around and to say we will still be in Pretoria together next year. We spoke about seasons changing…hers has changed as Yvotte is part of her life now and she has new things on the horizons. Like me, she has also left TMC and isn’t going to the LIV outreach either. Both of us are moving into seasons where we can say a lot is behind us and we’re walking on into new phases. New chapters are waiting to be written and it is things we have prayed for all year and now it is finally coming together. We both feel like we don’t need to be on TMC (the Tuks Missions Committee) as we have served our time there, and for some people it has just become a status thing, so we’re ready to move on. She also said she just doesn’t feel like God is calling her to go to LIV this year and I can honestly say the same. The only reason I might visit is to see Tich, his wife, the mothers of the village & kids for a day or two and catch up with them as I did earlier in the year and then visit Freddy and them who are finishing matric now. I also spoke about my studies and that I’m moving out of Intentional Living this year. It was one amazing year but I’m glad to be  moving out. This year has been one of the toughest that I’ve seen in all 3 of the years at Intentional Living… Lots has happened and I am ready for a more peaceful season, I too am moving into different relationships, studying phases and strengthening friendships with people like Liela. So we are both at a place where we are moving into special, peaceful seasons that we have been waiting and praying for and now they have come and we are ready for them.

We’re kind of ready to move on from old things into the new, making new memories. Living positively and just enjoying being alive.

That being said we also spoke about and discussed our surf trip we would have had this December. Between exams and all that has happened it has been a little rough and has bought plans to a halt. So we have decided to postpone the trip which is a blessing and we’re both really at peace about. It helps because if we wait, we’ll possibly get place to stay for free. We’ll be able to plan really well and only have to worry about petrol and food and have time to save up. So all in all, postponing has been just as much of a blessing. We still need to round up people and friends for this trip and we’ve decided we’d like to do it over Easter in April next year. So I’m really excited as that keeps God in the midst of things and makes the trip a little more special than it would normally be.

Getting together with Liela doesn’t always happen as often especially with how hectic this year has been so we’re hoping to make the most of the last couple of weeks that I’m in Pretoria before heading home to the coast and then next year. So in this time, she’ll be sending her exam roster so that we can make a time to hit that old bucket list of ours. We’re hoping to have a little sleepover at her house, watch some movies on our bucket list and do a few other activities from our bucket list. So I can’t wait for that either.

Lastly, about this special friend of mine. She has so much love and wisdom in her and it always shines brightly through her. I can share anything with her, we do the craziest things together and we’re both very passionate people. Our friendship is such a pure one that I cherish so much. So, today, as I headed out to see her, I found a rose in the garden and picked it up for Liela. I was just reminded by God through the rose, of how special and delicate our friendship is and how much it is like a white rose. Pure, and beautiful, leaving the aroma of God and His Love behind. There is nothing more beautiful than a rose blooming in the Summer time, and such is our friendship.

Surfer Girl Episodes

This morning I got to watch another episode of one of our surfer friends and now I feel I miss the beach… Alana Blanchard has a short series following her, Leila & Camille as they travel in and around the island of Kauai. Every time I watch this I get even more excited to be going to Kauai soon. Many of you may know her as Bethany Hamilton’s friend, who were both part of the Soul Surfer movie. Both are surfers and so are Leila & Camille. So I’ll upload the first few episodes, check it out and enjoy.

Waves of Life

Surfing and even swimming in the ocean can leave your body feeling like jelly. Each stroke and paddle to get a little further, then pushing upward to try get yourself to stand is an effort. And if your timing isn’t right, you won’t be standing but crashing down with the wave instead. Being out in the water for ages and making countless efforts not only at the wrong time but even the right time, can cause you to get tired and feel like your body has become noodles.

And when you’re short and small like me, sometimes those waves can look dark and daring. Pretty much a challenge. I mean, those huge waves can be big and efforts can feel a little useless and waves can look like they could drown me. You can feel pretty insignificant out there.  And when you do decide you won’t be taking a wave, you have got to push through that wave holding onto that board and staying on it… but of course you could duck-dive. I guess in your heart you want to hold onto that board and not lose it, but sometimes those waves crashing down on you are a whole lot scarier and you can easily forget. But once you get the hang of it all, you kind of have a break-through and waves aren’t as tough anymore.

With God it is the same. God whispers to us that we should hold onto Him. Because when we do, the waves of life become less scary and we become more victorious in our efforts.

The waves of life may be

                                                     Strong.

                                                                     Massive.

                                                                                         Overpowering.

And clutching onto Him with every last bit of energy when your arms feel like noodles, may be the last thing you want to do and it may not feel like it makes any sense.

But He will not fail you and He will not leave you.

He will be the One to bring you through.

I promise.

Psalm 42v7&8:

Deep calls to deep
in the roar of Your waterfalls;
all Your waves and breakers
have swept over me.

By day the Lord directs His love,
at night His song is with me—
a prayer to the God of my life.

Life is just PEACHES even while longing for MY BIKINI

So this week has been up and down emotionally with Uncle Johan’s death, but being able to see friends and have coffee. And then little old Kelly leaving for the U.S! So it has been a little bittersweet. Luckily I have had wonderful friends pray with me and for me for comfort and healing and many other things, also praying for my academics, my dad to get work, my future, for Bernhard and his family, for Kelly, for love in my life and just my heart. Many have prayed, but Sunday night I had Mari pray with me, as well as Werner who gave me comforting words, answering questions I had only thought about and kept in my head and heart for Jesus. Monday and Tuesday, Tshepi and Elicia were there as well as my sister, Kelly, Mona and Anneke.

Last night at the airport before coming home, my sister and I picked up a few chocolate crossiants to enjoy for breakfast this morning. When I woke up this morning, I had slept a little later as I got into bed quite late and was drained after all the excitement of the week so far, but when I woke, I woke to a gorgeous sunny day after a rainstorm last night. I love rainstorms, it just leaves everything so fresh for the start of the next, new day. But anyway, so on this gorgeous sunny day there is a light breeze in the air, a lot like the type we have back home at the beach. So I got up, my heart longing for the ocean and a lovely little swim, went to the kitchen, made some tea and got a little chocolate crossiant. Boy, was I stoked! I started my morning off pretty relaxed and chilled out, enjoying the fresh air and breeze coming in while I enjoy food and drink, doing things like I would back home at the beach… Am I tempted to wear my bikini under my clothes today, like I would back home, enjoying the beach life and just how relaxed it feels – a lot like life is pretty peachy? Well, Yes I am quite tempted to do exactly that….

As if that wasn’t enough, one of my surfer friends from Hawaii who has been to Aus recently, shared a range of bikinis with me from Rip Curl that she just thought I would love and need to see. Needless to say that I totally loved it and immediately shared the link with another of my beautiful surfer friends – Emma! The range MY BIKINI is from Rip Curl, it is super sweet as it has different types of bikinis ranging from sexy to super cute as surfer girls or girls at the beach wana look cute and be comfortable in the bikinis they’re wearing. But what’s really great about this range is that, Alana, like Alana Blanchard, who is a pro surfer was basically part of the whole designing of it from a technical point of view. This really helps as the bikini’s sit well and she knows what is needed if you’re gona be swimming in it all day or surfing. Many times because of the way our bikini’s are made, we suffer from headaches or our bikini tops or bottoms fly off when duck-diving or when get caught in a wave. So from a technical point of view they really work without forgetting that the look of them and us ladies have different taste. So there really is something for everyone in the range, and if it isn’t there yet, you can expect for it to be coming soon. It has hit North America and the range has just recently hit Aus, so let’s hope it’ll be coming soon to South Africa, but ’til then I’ll be shipping mine in from America where Kelly will now be or from Aus, where a couple of my friends are.

Another range I’m loving right now, not just because it is soooo pretty and they come in the coolest sherbet or candy floss type colours and are locally made, and have been launched in Johannesburg recently but also because it is incredibly cool….is the PEACHES SWIMWEAR range…. So they are just as cute and locally produced which I’m always up for supporting 🙂 Not only do they come in the coolest colours and are locally produced but these bikini’s are pretty damn cute and really bring out the girly side of each lady who gets into one and feels like heading to the pool or beach. They really look comfy and cute, so I can’t wait to get my hands on one of them and splash around in the water with it. There has been amazing feedback from friends and people in general about the PEACHES bikini range. My friend Emma, shared the link on facebook and I’m glad she did. The range has me extremely excited about this coming summer and the celebrations that await as soon as we all go on holiday and I’m able to go home to the beach! I can’t wait to get my tan on now!!!

So to all of you – as I long for a day at the beach in my bikini & life feels a little more peachy today… go check out the different links and bikini collections girls and have one fabulously PEACHY day 🙂 xx

Sunny South Coast

Well after a windy, rainy weekend the coast is sunny & warm. It is great to get up at 4.45am to do stuff and know I can actually feel my feet. At 4.45am here on the coast it is warm. It is a big change from the cold city where I’ll be waking up next week again.

I had a great time Friday evening with Rachel & Shaun! The braai was fun & we ended up playing a few board games including some dating game in which Shaun had to propose(again) to Rachel in 6 lines – rhyming! Haha was a fantastic evening. Was reminded why I love those two so much.

The Billabong Pro in Jbay also ended with Adriano De Souza taking the win! I must admit I didn’t see it coming but closer to the end of the competition he was definitely holding up well! Also, Stephanie Gilmore won her 5th ASP title! Pretty stoked about that one! Cool fact – Kelly Slater was exactly the same age when he won his 5th ASP title! So is Steph the next Kelly Slater in the girl world?! Well, we’ll have to wait & see.

Then this week has been pretty chilled. Just been spending a lot of time with God and keeping chilled hey. Just been relaxing and taking in the coastal vibes as well as getting up to date in the animal world. My sister has been asked to play for Tuks Junior 7s Rugby team in September in Cape Town. So, if I thought we were getting fit this holiday, it’s nothing compared to the practices & training we’ll be having this next month or so! Super keen!!!

Last night we spent our evening with Kelly, his mates Scott & Damian. We went to watch their action cricket match. They were already stiff from Monday night’s winning match so we were laughing a lot at the way they were playing. We had a lot of fun & it was a blessing to have spent the night with them. It was one of the last times we’d see Kelly for the next 3 years, as he’s going off to the air force in August. Don’t even think he’ll be at my 21st, which I’m bummed about but you gotta do what you gotta do & he’s been keen & waiting to go for so long now. My sister is also pretty funny with her comments. So I thought I’d post her comment on last night’s action cricket – a great summary for how the evening had gone down. We’re so blessed to have so many great people in our life.
“Brother is injured, Oosthuis lost a testicle and Scott is still walking like an old lady! Well played owes haha:)
– action cricket night :)” – Chantelle

Have a great weekend everyone!

*One of the photos of a surfer on a huge ass wave is of Gabe Davies from Ireland & the pic of the guy kissing the trophy, is (you guessed it) Brazillian Adriano De Souza.
