Blessed Beyond Compare

Tonight I found myself feeling sorry for myself as I have been sitting at home alone while my sister was out…but now I’m feeling more blessed than I could have imagined and appreciating a lot more than usual…I guess sometimes we take our everyday things as well as relationships with people for granted. And it is in times of huge loss or disappointment that I find myself reminded just how blessed I am. Never have I been more thankful and appreciative of friends God has blessed me with than right at this very moment. And the fact that technology can help us keep in touch even in the moments that great distance stands between us.

Earlier in the week I had emailed my dear friend Kerry-Lee about doing the make-up of another friend(Bianca) of mine for her wedding. Kerry didn’t reply immediately, and I took it she was busy, as this week was pretty chaotic for myself, so I can just imagine for her as a mum, wife, friend, daughter and someone who works too. But tonight she replied, and in it she included her own sad news which was reason for her ‘late'(which I seem to think is more than ON TIME) reply.

A few words into her reply and she had me bawling my eyes out as I could just imagine a tiny bit of what she may be going through. After that, we communicated back and forth…she ended up having me between tears of immense sadness, and laughter and tears of extreme joy and love… It has been the weirdest feelings but it has been great as we both shared our current situations with one another, praying and just being there for each other… It truly has been such a blessing and I have been bursting into tears every few seconds since we started chatting as God has just filled me with an immense intensity of love for my dear friend!!! She has been such a role model, friend and mentor in my life for so long and I cherish her deeply. And being able to share with her and witness again in her life tonight, has been so special. It is just beautiful how God works and how He turns all things to our good no matter how awful our situations might seem.

Kerry-Lee is such a special person that the shortest of moments of communicating between us, are often just as full of impact as those that last hours…if not more… God really shines through her and does the most amazing things in our times of communication and sharing. God has blessed us with great friendship and it is a blessing not going through situations alone, knowing that there is someone else who is listening and praying with you…someone else navigating through situations by your side… Being able to support someone else in the Body of Christ and that person supporting you, is such a blessing and should never be taken for granted.

Thanks so much my dear friend! You always seem to inspire me. And your love and support, your grace and strength are incredible. Your character never fails to amaze me. I am truly blessed by your friendship. Loads of love xx

44 days & Counting

Exactly 1 year ago, my beautiful friend Liela, met her prince, Yvotte, one who we’d been praying for and whom she had been praying for, for years! They met at Tuks’ annual Missions Week and he was a guest speaker to share his testimony and what an incredible man and story that was!

And now, in exactly 44 days, these two beautiful people will be wed. My amazing friend will be wed and they might be moving over to the U.S after that. Incredible things happening as God continues to bless these two. 44 days til the wedding and we’re all pretty darn excited!

Love this beautiful friend of mine and God truly has blessed me with a special sister and friend – someone very close to my heart!

Best Mates Having a Top Notch Night

So the whole week my sister has been nagging that I need to see my best mate before he heads back to Stellenbosch.

Last night I finally got a chance to see him as he invited me over for a good old braai. What a blessed and chilled evening it was. Being in his presence with his family and people we grew up with, listening and telling all our funny stories to other people, just chilling by the fire, talking bout playing songs on the guitar and him drinking his beer and keeping my wine glass filled… It just really showed me how much I cherish our friendship and how much I miss this guy during the year. It was great that we could see each other so soon, as we usually on see each other over summer holidays, so we’re stoked our schedules worked out – especially with this visit home being so unplanned for me…

We’ve been mates since grade 1, and his younger brother and my younger sister have been best mates too since they were little. We have been through so much together, the high’s and low’s… We have so many cool stories in which we have gotten into trouble or I’ve bailed him out of trouble… He’ll tell you and joke that in school I was his P.A, helping him with Afrikaans and loads more and he got me through my Maths and Science later on… From stealing trolleys and getting chased by police to blowing up things and going fishing, camping out and playing games, from girls to sports and holding gum guards, even teaching me and showing me the different stars…we’ve done it all.

So last night the stories were flying, we were joking around and mocking each other’s varsities, our glasses stayed filled, his mom told stories about how we’ve stuck together through it all, we ate together, Ryan dishing up for me, wanting me to eat as much as he was having and the food was amazingly delicious, photos were taken and later we ended up playing some games ’til about one in the morning. After that it was bed time, so that there would be time for an early surf session…

Our friendship, hooligans sticking with hooligans through thick and thin has proven to be an incredible one. It is one we have worked at but one that has also just stuck and worked out no matter what, which seems to have surprised many especially since we have remained close mates after school despite being miles apart. This is a friend whom I cherish so much and whom I can always chill with and be myself, and with that, an awesome guy, such a stand-up guy with amazing mannerisms, an all rounder with such a heart for God too. We grew up in the same cell/home group, went to our matric dance together and pretty much have seen it all together. He is a friend whom I definitely will be mates with ’til we die…somehow we just know this. And what a blessing and honour it has been and is to be friends and call him my best mate.

A top notch evening, with a friend worth far more than this world could offer! Such a good time with him and our other mates, Josh, Reece, Grant and Stubbs, before we both head back to our different varsities 🙂 xx

Celebrating God’s Blessings

So God has totally blessed me with some pretty damn amazing and inspirational people in my life… Each of their situations different with different things to celebrate, but celebrating nonetheless! I am so incredibly blessed and cannot help but share their amazing stories and excitement with all of you.

Firstly, Friday, I was hardly on the coast an hour when I bumped into a great friend I’ve had in my life since high school at the Southcoast Mall. She is an amazing woman of God who has been an incredible blessing, always sharing her love and wisdom and inspiring me to do more and be more and constantly seek God in all situations. I have been able to confide in her so many times with my heart and issues and so much more. She is the sister of my friend Ryan, but also a friend I had made being in school, doing a play together and later being there to do my make-up for my matric dance, one day when I get married, I’m sure she’ll be there doing my makeup too just by the way. As I left school our friendship grew and I was able to look to her as a great role model and we got closer as we both were concerned about her brother and later as we prayed for her first born, Reece while he was still in her tummy. God also gave me a vision and prophetic word that I soon shared with Kerry-lee about her son Reece. Now, I am happy to announce that this lovely lady’s family is growing from 3 people to 4 as she is expecting a second little person to be joining soon. Kerry and her husband Kyle have another baby on board and I must say, I am thrilled for them. Reece has grown up so quickly, being one bright little boy. So another little person seems like more joy to be added to this amazing little family. Such blessed news and Kerry is glowing! Hoping to have tea and a little catch up session in this week with Kerry-lee so I am super excited!!! What an inspirational woman!

Then, Saturday evening, I got to spend some time with Kelly!!! His news is that he is heading back to the U.S soon and taking friends with him… He is motivating and inspiring his mates to start doing things and it is a pleasure to watch and hear. He really has matured quite a bit and God really seems to be using him in helping his friends get up and started in life. He’s also turning 21 in less than a month which is pretty exciting too. So I am incredibly proud of my favorite and enjoying every little moment I am having to spend with him.

Then, lastly, one of my oldest friends who I have known since my days of running around in a nappy – Raymond Burger… He’s been in my life forever. We used to live around the corner from each other and our moms are very good friends! We went to the same nursery school and later ended up in the same high school. We’ve been through the laughter and the tears… We have seen the best and worst of each other but have been there to support and believe in each other through it all. Nevermind what people have thought, I have always been proud to call Raymond my friend. He really has been an inspiration in my life as well. He’s had it tough, tougher than a lot of people that I know, but he made the best of it and has turned everything around for the best. If there was one guy whom I never doubted knew God personally and had seen God’s light shine through, that would be Raymond. He doesn’t always believe he’s been the best person, but if people got to see half what I have seen in him and from him, they’d agree he’s pretty incredible. Anyway, in the past few years he’s been in the gym and going at it. Always setting goals and persevering ’til he gets there. If there is a strong person who has taught me about fighting for what’s right and what you want and persisting through anything, battling it out. It would be him. And loving yourself and being you, no matter what. Lessons he’s taught me. Anyway, I’ve watched him and chatted and kept in contact while he has gone through all he has. I have also been there while he has given me lessons on nutrition, spoken about helping people and the book he wants to write, the hours he spent practicing driving with me and many more moments. He’s the one I’ve called if I need advice on body issues or actually any other stuff. He’s always had my back. Now, I get to celebrate another fine moment in his life. On Saturday I saw him for a moment at the rugby game, and I could hardly believe the transformation… But if there has been anyone who could do it, it has been him. Over the past year and a half, I’ve been able to see him before his transformation and now another part of it. It might not be the end or his final goal, but it is a massive goal he has reached! He has lost an incredible amount of weight and the pictures say it all. So, well done to him for getting as far as he has and for all the success still to come! Sooooo amazing! Rejoicing with him in every moment. He is a great inspiration and motivation. If you put your mind to it and with God by your side, you can do anything!

So congrats to these people I am lucky to call friends and family! Amazing people whom God has blessed me with. Love you all xx

Distance & time cannot separate friends

After leaving school, heading off to varsity and the rest of our lives, people seem to grow apart with distance and time. Lately I’ve been missing Lala (her real name is Rachel by the way), who currently sits in Germany.

We met way back when we were little, doing dancing shows together and a little later she transferred to my primary school and since then we became really close friends. We ended up being the only two girls from our primary school that went to Southcity Christian College for high school, so we stuck together.

Lala is very outgoing and spontaneous but at the same time as being super social, she was also very easy going, and didn’t mind staying in at home with the family in the evenings if needed. We both just clicked from the start. We have tons of fun together and laugh a lot but with being such good friends, comes a lot of drama. We have definitely had our ups and downs, especially in high school. 5409_121642494404_5756321_n Me chilling 3

We had different classes but also had many of the same ones. We both did drama after school, along with sports and dancing. My mom would always pack extra lunch for Lala, which continued throughout high school, until we got to our final year where we had a kettle in the class – we then made turns bringing soup for lunch but continued to share whatever we could. We did a lot together, I mean even our matric dance, we ended up getting mani’s and pedi’s as well as spray tans together as well as our photos. Our first year of high school up until the end we took turns going through bullying of other girls, being kept in and out of cliques, going through boy troubles, being in the vice principal’s office, rehearsals for plays, hockey practices and clinics. With all the girl drama, there were stages we weren’t supposed to talk to each other, I remember even on her birthday the one year – yet, we found ways and I still wished her happy birthday regardless of these girls and their issues. Later on we learned to stand up against these issues and girls and we always seemed to find a way back to one another being at our strongest when we were friends. In our final year, we had a disagreement about a guy and words were said and we grew apart a little. One of the worst mistakes ever… Luckily I realised how dumb it had sounded and I apologised while at varsity, making a point of it, to never let that happen again.

Even at varsity, I didn’t get to see Lala much the first year. She was studying dancing and I was busy with my life, making different kinds of friends, being on a million committees and things seemed different. Lala then went and finished her teacher’s degree in dancing back home and my situation at varsity changed a little. Somehow, once again we found our way back and every opportunity I got to go home, I would go see Lala.

Our adventures have been endless & the things I miss now, is seeing her often, the craziness, the stories, making food together, chatting in the kitchen, chatting ‘til late in her double bed, her dog farting while we try sleep, the sharing clothes and getting ready to go out, the times we would get movies and pizza, the endless parties and braai’s we would have at her house, hearing her call me ‘Moo’, pulling weird faces, taking photos, laughing so hard our ribs hurt, talking about guys (although her stories consisted mostly of Shaun), talking to her in an emergency, getting advice, fighting against girls in school, our beach adventures, ultra-sounds of a friend, birthdays, tons of dancing in clubs and in shows and at school and everywhere, celebrating her engagement, throwing farewells, walking to petrol stations, making and icing millions of cupcakes for valentine’s day, going on hikes, trying to bunk geography classes and me joining her drama classes to bunk my own, sticky spray tan moments, playing board games at her house with Shaun, having ‘baaaaaaa’(like a sheep) moments, doing dressed up dinners while in fancy clothes and sweating like pigs working to get a roast done with a group of girls, listening to endless amounts of Uncle Trevor’s sermons, going on crazy school camps, having girl’s nights and photo shoots, taking showers and bubble baths together, walking and hitchhiking to the beach from school, going tree-top sailing, going to the mall, our sushi dates, doing our hair, listening to cd’s and random songs together, going shopping, our many attempts at dieting and trying to lose weight, our constant eating and craving delicious foods, talking about our plans for the future and travelling, talking about family and our homes one day…. I just miss my Lala in general…

So now, with all the crazy distance between us we have been able to reconnect with Lala getting married and now me having found the right guy. Although all the distance is there, it is great to know that nothing changes and that our friendship can only grow as we’re more than willing to keep in contact and work through all this together.

Lala is a strong friend of mine who has made it through a lot and continues to grow in strength as she goes on.  Lala is pretty amazing, poised and caring and super friendly and loving and has an amazing heart for God and she’s just all round incredible… I had known and seen it before but was reminded of it on the day of Rachel’s ‘Bat-Barack’…a kind-of coming of age ceremony that was a symbol of her becoming a woman (it was just before she had turned 18) and starting on a new path. It was held at church and it was absolutely beautiful. All the older woman in her life, read verses and gave prophetic word of Lala and spoke different blessings over her life. Then the youth pastor’s kids sang ‘Indescribable’ to Rachel as it is one of her favourite songs. Her parents said a few words and we all prayed for her. She then cut a ribbon that was hanging in front of a wooden bridge that was covered in rose petals and walked over it as a symbolic gesture. I also got to say a few words, but it all came down to me promising to look after Lala as my best friend as we left home for varsity and in the future, no matter what circumstances we’d come across..so distance and time has never mattered and never will – as we’ll ALWAYS find a way back to each other and be there no matter what.

Lala's 'Bat Barack'

Lala’s ‘Bat Barack’

So this incredibly amazing friend is someone who has contributed so much to who I am today and the kinds of choices I make, she truly kicks ass and means the world to me. And no matter what, if someone messes with her they know they’re messing with me.  I am super blessed by her and I am so grateful for the grace that has been part of our friendship that has held us together and even bought us back to one another in times of deep hurt or getting lost. Grace is so much a part of us and our friendship, it has been there in the times of great joy, laughter and silliness but also been there in the times of great heartache and disappointment allowing forgiveness and growth. We have a strong bond and I’ll forever remember and know how much Lala has been there for me. She has contributed so much and is definitely a role model and friend, someone who speaks deeply into my soul and spirit, who has helped lay foundations of my identity.

In the past I was blessed by her, as she was the reason I could dive deeply into adventures without fear, knowing that she would always be there as a safety net…something I hope would continue today and I hope she would know that I would be there too, as her extra safety net. Things are a little different and we now have men by our side that we lean on, but we still have each other in case of any fire. But I look up to Lala a lot and am honoured to still be part of her life, no matter how much or little and her influence in my life continues to be great no matter our present circumstances.

Love you lots Lala xx

Sisterhood Sewn Together

sewing1

I remember being taught how to sew by my German teacher back in grade 2, not enjoying it at all, until years later only. But before that I could sit for hours watching my mom make clothes. I loved the basket she had with all the sewing materials especially the different kinds and colours of thread. Everything about it seemed so delicate and beautiful. It was a great skill my mom and some of my aunts had and when I was little, it seemed like it was their super power. Being able to fix broken pieces or create anything new. I would draw things and they would make it come to life.

IMG-20130511-WA000

For a moment, I’d like to sound a little like a girl…have a bit of a girly moment and share with you two new friends God has sewn into my life. He has taken 3 very different materials and sewn their hearts together using a delicate and gentle thread, and the product of the bond produced has created a very special kind of sisterhood.

Eline and Ashley.

It certainly is a new friendship but a very close knit one. Our personalities are very different and we appear differently in Spirit but our hearts are very much aligned and something just clicked from the first moments we met each other.  We don’t get to see each other much but we try stay in contact over the phone and we’re constantly praying for each other and when we do get to see each other, we definitely make the most of it.

IMG-20130511-WA002AshleyShe is super loud and wacky. Her laugh is contagious and she is very outgoing. She loves the spotlight and you can’t help but have fun when she’s around. Definitely there to spice things up. She is strongly opinionated and shouldn’t be messed with. She is loving and friendly but get on her wrong side and she can definitely take you out.

ElinéShe’s known for her red lipstick and love of boots. When we travel, she usually has a whole extra bag for all her pairs of boots that are coming along. She’s gentle but can be just as crazy and loud. Just like Ashley, I wouldn’t mess with her, I mean on one of her pairs of boots from Vietnam she has “Romans 16” engraved on them. And if you go read that, you’ll see verse 20 says it all. I need not say more.

IMG-20130520-WA005We have fun together. We are loud. We are outrageous. We are strong. But at the same time, we are soft and gentle, loving and delicate. We are a wacky group but the friendship is blessed and anointed by God which truly makes it amazing.

IMG-20130520-WA002

A friendship sewn together by God is a blessed and cherished one. It is amazing to have friends who walk with you and who have such willingness in their hearts. I’m proud to call these ladies sisters, not only in Christ but for life and the adventures to come are both exciting and incredible. Love them to bits!!

New blessings & opportunities

401945_579644305391164_1470672967_nThe weekend that just passed was an awesome weekend as I spent it with friends. A weekend that had been planned and booked out ages ago as we have to for all our sakes. It was a weekend of celebrating Jean’s birthday, but more of praying together and sharing our hearts and a lot of testimony sharing…. We all stayed in a guest house and ate together and talked and laughed, we played pool and danced and sang and just had a lovely time together, all as a group but at times also breaking up into groups of just guys and just girls to chat and share other things. It really was lovely. A blessed weekend and it was great to see God being the center of it all for all of us.  Not only did we grow individually, but we as sisters and the guys together as brothers in Christ, a really close knit family!

crazylove2 photo crazylove3 IMG-20130520-WA001 IMG-20130520-WA005Then further during this week, I got to catch up with a very good friend of mine who had been in Cape Town. I really had a lovely time with Megan, we’ve even made plans for the upcoming weekend with one of our other friends, Corne. I have had a dinner date with my boyfriend and prospects of new business come up as well as job offers and prospects of joining new teams for the organizing of ministry and conferences. These new prospects have really been a blessing as God takes me into a new phase of my life, which has me extremely excited as God shows me how He is going to provide for me and my family. Then lastly, but not least, God has also taken a situation with a friend, and restored our relationship, reconciling us as friends which has come unexpectedly and has just been such a blessing as God lines up all these amazing things in my life. It truly has humbled me and put me at such peace, as God just keeps on providing!!!

Save The Date

savedate1 savedate2So it has come!!!! The Save The Date for one of my dearest and bestest friends’ wedding!!! I am so excited for this wedding. Liela and Yvotte have been such a special couple in my journey and God has blessed me with Liela, as such a close best friend with whom I have been so spiritually connected. It is going to be such a special day as every other moment with her and them as a couple has been. If not more. I honestly am blessed and beyond excitement. And the video that came along with this, made by Yvotte, was adorably cute and had me dancing on the couch!!!! I RSVPed right away…. God really does write spectacular and beautiful stories and I am honoured to be a part of this one and to have them be a part in the one God has been and is busy writing for me.
