Dad’s 50th Weekend

IMG_06282 weekend’s ago (10th-12th May), I went home for my dad’s 50th. It truly was a blessed weekend as I got to see family and just spend quality time with my parents. It was a bitter sweet weekend as it really opened my eyes to the situation at home and how my parents are struggling financially and the time at home was way too short, but I had a lot of fun and really enjoyed the deep conversations I had with my parents. We really opened up to each other and my dad really appreciated us coming home for his birthday and my mom was happy we were there for mother’s day. We also laughed a lot and my dad told lots of stories, I got to share details with them about the new budding relationship in my life and also just share my heart with them. It was great being able to lie against my dad and keep warm while talking on the couch and awesome to chill on my mom’s bed and just watch a movie with her. The weekend weather was cold and rainy, so it gave us a lot of time to spend indoors chatting and catching up. I also got to see one of my best mates, Stubbs, on Friday night for coffee and then we cooked supper for his mom. We both got to share and talk about new opportunities and prospects coming into our lives and what our future’s hold and just talk deeply about God and a bunch of stuff, sharing jokes and stories and coffee – it really was a blessing.IMG_0629 IMG-20130510-WA002

That same weekend though, my boyfriend had been involved in a car accident, a head on collision. Our friend Michelle was in the car with him and she got hurt, breaking her collar bone and cracking two ribs, he went through the windscreen. Luckily, everyone came out alive but I was pretty shaken up when I got the news as I wasn’t in the same province and was over 700km’s away. Luckily, God has blessed us with four amazing friends, them being his two best friends and each of their girlfriends. Freddie and Ashley, Cornu and Eline went over to go see him, sending me news and photos to let me know he’s okay and reassuring me. I really appreciated it and truly have been blessed by these amazing people. My parents were with me when I got the news, so they comforted me while I cried and went through the motions of shock and processing it all. My mom gave hugs and chocolate, while my dad made tea and told jokes. It really was a great weekend overall, that strengthened relationships and really built solid foundations for a great future. It really showed me what love is and how blessed I am to have people who care in my life. I am so thankful for it all.IMG-20130511-WA003 IMG-20130511-WA002

Looking after Our Souls

644722_4478619680481_1720799057_nMy friend Riamien – what a fantastic friend. She truly was an inspiration to all of us and she will not be forgotten. My beautiful friend who struggled with lung cancer, passed away yesterday, after suffering and being in extreme pain these past few weeks, and then still picking up an infection. Luckily, Jesus really loves us, He comforts us and makes things okay when they seem not to be.

He blessed me with a beautiful friendship with her. I only got to know her after she was diagnosed but man, she had such a beautiful soul. Even in her darkest of hours, when she was in extreme pain and we spoke, even then, although she was struggling, there was so much light and love that came from her.

Yesterday, my parents left after a weekend of having them here in the city. It really was good to see them as well as all the other family. I got to see my mom’s aunt turn 70. I played with the most amazing young kids. I ate and laughed with family. I was able to be kept updated of a friend’s wedding far away by two other very good friends. And yesterday, after spending a weekend with family, I got to spend most of my day and evening last night, with a very close spiritual brother whom I talked about earlier. Jean, who returned from Thailand. His brother, also joined us at the driving range later the afternoon. I was very blessed by these two. Especially, when the news came through of my cherished friend’s death. At that time, we had stopped to get take-away coffee and had headed to our university sport’s fields, to drink our coffee and watch God make thunder and lightning and bring on the rain.

Hearing the news and having been with such good people, God really took care of my soul. He also speaks to me when there is wind and thunder and rain and that was all around last night. So between that and friends, I was being smothered in God’s love and comforted by Him and His grace. After the crying, we sat and watched more of the thunder & lightning, as well as listened to some beautiful songs, one being “Let it Rain”. Through the wind I could feel His love wrap itself around me, and while Jean prayed before we got in the car…for Angels to come, I was able to see angels come. God was there and it was amazing. Yesterday was a beautiful day, despite the loss of my friend. Although I experienced outrage and anger and disappointment towards God, despite all that, Jesus still came & covered me with grace and comfort and love, He overwhelmed me with it and still told me how worthy I am. He truly is a loving Father and He truly blessed me with this weekend, with all that happened and all the people He put there. So thanks to those beautiful people too. God really is taking care of my soul.

And as God takes care of my soul, I pray He will take care of all my precious family and friend’s souls as well as my dear friend’s family in this time.

Friendship Blooming Like a Rose

Today I had coffee with Liela…my special friend. We went to Tribeccas on our University Campus. As always, our coffee date didn’t disappoint. I haven’t seen her in a month so doing some catch up time like this is a whole session of DMCs. Anyway, it was great chatting and catching up.

Campus is extremely peaceful this time of year with exams and all, and so beautiful in the summer time with the trees and flowers, so our setting was perfect.

Obviously, I got to chat to her sharing deep stories and where I am at now. As soon as exams are done, it will be a more peaceful time for her to spend with Yvotte, which I am extremely happy about. And at the same time, I am busy moving into a more peaceful season in my life now. We spoke for ages about what is happening in our lives and what we’re doing next year. I am so grateful to have her around and to say we will still be in Pretoria together next year. We spoke about seasons changing…hers has changed as Yvotte is part of her life now and she has new things on the horizons. Like me, she has also left TMC and isn’t going to the LIV outreach either. Both of us are moving into seasons where we can say a lot is behind us and we’re walking on into new phases. New chapters are waiting to be written and it is things we have prayed for all year and now it is finally coming together. We both feel like we don’t need to be on TMC (the Tuks Missions Committee) as we have served our time there, and for some people it has just become a status thing, so we’re ready to move on. She also said she just doesn’t feel like God is calling her to go to LIV this year and I can honestly say the same. The only reason I might visit is to see Tich, his wife, the mothers of the village & kids for a day or two and catch up with them as I did earlier in the year and then visit Freddy and them who are finishing matric now. I also spoke about my studies and that I’m moving out of Intentional Living this year. It was one amazing year but I’m glad to be  moving out. This year has been one of the toughest that I’ve seen in all 3 of the years at Intentional Living… Lots has happened and I am ready for a more peaceful season, I too am moving into different relationships, studying phases and strengthening friendships with people like Liela. So we are both at a place where we are moving into special, peaceful seasons that we have been waiting and praying for and now they have come and we are ready for them.

We’re kind of ready to move on from old things into the new, making new memories. Living positively and just enjoying being alive.

That being said we also spoke about and discussed our surf trip we would have had this December. Between exams and all that has happened it has been a little rough and has bought plans to a halt. So we have decided to postpone the trip which is a blessing and we’re both really at peace about. It helps because if we wait, we’ll possibly get place to stay for free. We’ll be able to plan really well and only have to worry about petrol and food and have time to save up. So all in all, postponing has been just as much of a blessing. We still need to round up people and friends for this trip and we’ve decided we’d like to do it over Easter in April next year. So I’m really excited as that keeps God in the midst of things and makes the trip a little more special than it would normally be.

Getting together with Liela doesn’t always happen as often especially with how hectic this year has been so we’re hoping to make the most of the last couple of weeks that I’m in Pretoria before heading home to the coast and then next year. So in this time, she’ll be sending her exam roster so that we can make a time to hit that old bucket list of ours. We’re hoping to have a little sleepover at her house, watch some movies on our bucket list and do a few other activities from our bucket list. So I can’t wait for that either.

Lastly, about this special friend of mine. She has so much love and wisdom in her and it always shines brightly through her. I can share anything with her, we do the craziest things together and we’re both very passionate people. Our friendship is such a pure one that I cherish so much. So, today, as I headed out to see her, I found a rose in the garden and picked it up for Liela. I was just reminded by God through the rose, of how special and delicate our friendship is and how much it is like a white rose. Pure, and beautiful, leaving the aroma of God and His Love behind. There is nothing more beautiful than a rose blooming in the Summer time, and such is our friendship.

Cherishing A New Day, Week and People

It is a brand new day and I am super excited for the rest of this week. Today I get to see Liela… we need a little catch up time. Haven’t seen each other in just over a month due to funerals and exams and just both being crazily busy. So the last time we saw each other was our time at Aroma. So to this morning’s coffee and catch up session I am looking forward. It is always a blessing and fun, lots of stories, laughter and giggling as well as gratefulness along with it all. She is such a loving person – so I am just thrilled.

Then the rest of the week will get interesting. Just consisting of some work, going to the zoo in Johannesburg and a few other places, seeing Ani hopefully, intense gym sessions, an engineering end year function on Saturday for Mari and I and then spending a day with Heinrich, Karen, Ingrid and Aunty Valencia as we go watch Bernhard’s show at the Botanical Gardens. So this week is a little busy but also pretty relaxed. The week has been going well so far and God just continues to bless me which I really am thankful for. It really is a good time.

And then, today, it is Mona’s birthday! So, I am super stoked for her and wishing her a beautiful birthday. I hope it will be a very special one filled with many blessings. She really deserves an incredible day as she has been such an amazing support to me in my life and to so many others. I cherish our friendship so much and our incredible moments of sharing our hearts with each other on whatsapp while she’s at work and on the weekends when I get to see her. So to Mona, Happy Birthday, may it be incredible and we love you lots.

Xx

Life is just PEACHES even while longing for MY BIKINI

So this week has been up and down emotionally with Uncle Johan’s death, but being able to see friends and have coffee. And then little old Kelly leaving for the U.S! So it has been a little bittersweet. Luckily I have had wonderful friends pray with me and for me for comfort and healing and many other things, also praying for my academics, my dad to get work, my future, for Bernhard and his family, for Kelly, for love in my life and just my heart. Many have prayed, but Sunday night I had Mari pray with me, as well as Werner who gave me comforting words, answering questions I had only thought about and kept in my head and heart for Jesus. Monday and Tuesday, Tshepi and Elicia were there as well as my sister, Kelly, Mona and Anneke.

Last night at the airport before coming home, my sister and I picked up a few chocolate crossiants to enjoy for breakfast this morning. When I woke up this morning, I had slept a little later as I got into bed quite late and was drained after all the excitement of the week so far, but when I woke, I woke to a gorgeous sunny day after a rainstorm last night. I love rainstorms, it just leaves everything so fresh for the start of the next, new day. But anyway, so on this gorgeous sunny day there is a light breeze in the air, a lot like the type we have back home at the beach. So I got up, my heart longing for the ocean and a lovely little swim, went to the kitchen, made some tea and got a little chocolate crossiant. Boy, was I stoked! I started my morning off pretty relaxed and chilled out, enjoying the fresh air and breeze coming in while I enjoy food and drink, doing things like I would back home at the beach… Am I tempted to wear my bikini under my clothes today, like I would back home, enjoying the beach life and just how relaxed it feels – a lot like life is pretty peachy? Well, Yes I am quite tempted to do exactly that….

As if that wasn’t enough, one of my surfer friends from Hawaii who has been to Aus recently, shared a range of bikinis with me from Rip Curl that she just thought I would love and need to see. Needless to say that I totally loved it and immediately shared the link with another of my beautiful surfer friends – Emma! The range MY BIKINI is from Rip Curl, it is super sweet as it has different types of bikinis ranging from sexy to super cute as surfer girls or girls at the beach wana look cute and be comfortable in the bikinis they’re wearing. But what’s really great about this range is that, Alana, like Alana Blanchard, who is a pro surfer was basically part of the whole designing of it from a technical point of view. This really helps as the bikini’s sit well and she knows what is needed if you’re gona be swimming in it all day or surfing. Many times because of the way our bikini’s are made, we suffer from headaches or our bikini tops or bottoms fly off when duck-diving or when get caught in a wave. So from a technical point of view they really work without forgetting that the look of them and us ladies have different taste. So there really is something for everyone in the range, and if it isn’t there yet, you can expect for it to be coming soon. It has hit North America and the range has just recently hit Aus, so let’s hope it’ll be coming soon to South Africa, but ’til then I’ll be shipping mine in from America where Kelly will now be or from Aus, where a couple of my friends are.

Another range I’m loving right now, not just because it is soooo pretty and they come in the coolest sherbet or candy floss type colours and are locally made, and have been launched in Johannesburg recently but also because it is incredibly cool….is the PEACHES SWIMWEAR range…. So they are just as cute and locally produced which I’m always up for supporting 🙂 Not only do they come in the coolest colours and are locally produced but these bikini’s are pretty damn cute and really bring out the girly side of each lady who gets into one and feels like heading to the pool or beach. They really look comfy and cute, so I can’t wait to get my hands on one of them and splash around in the water with it. There has been amazing feedback from friends and people in general about the PEACHES bikini range. My friend Emma, shared the link on facebook and I’m glad she did. The range has me extremely excited about this coming summer and the celebrations that await as soon as we all go on holiday and I’m able to go home to the beach! I can’t wait to get my tan on now!!!

So to all of you – as I long for a day at the beach in my bikini & life feels a little more peachy today… go check out the different links and bikini collections girls and have one fabulously PEACHY day 🙂 xx

The AROMA of Heart-sisters

My heart has been sad, I’ve been sick but between it all, God has lightened up my day with the most amazing blessings. I have discovered and fallen in love with a new amazing coffee shop which opened in September….  It’s called AROMA GOURMET COFFEE ROASTERY. Not only has this little place blessed me with all the soul it contains but also has it been a place that has blessed my relationships with others. It has become a place of warmth and friendship…

It is a little place which seems to make you feel like you’re a little closer to heaven and floating on clouds while still trying to keep your feet on the ground. I’ve only bought super special friends to this extraordinary place. It is my little escape, one I could enjoy every day to get away from my crazy busy days. I’ve been here with Mari, my sister & then two of my bestest friends, Tshepi & Elicia….Every time I come it is delightful & truly special as I discover something new about the place. The first time it was just the coffee and amazingly friendly staff, as well as the co-owner whom served us. His name is Rael Shiller, 21 and a great person, so much warmth & passion that he kind of sells it off well. Their attention to detail is amazing as I discovered again today & every time I get here. They have Blondies, which is another version of chocolate brownies. When I was first introduced to it, I thought Rael was mocking me and making a silly joke about Blondes… I was mistaken. That little dessert/pastry is….amazing. Life changing. Anyway, yesterday I was here with my sister as I was feeling down…it definitely cheered me up, and I didn’t want to leave. We tried their gourmet sandwiches & I introduced my sister to the Blondie…. both were amazing once again. They even roast and package their own coffee beans, not allowing anytime to go by or allowing an opportunity for it to get stale… It is a wonderful place, one extremely close to my heart, that I love and I know all my friends who have been here love. One of my friends – Stubbs, back home will appreciate it too and I’m considering telling him to fly up just to experience this.

Elicia & Tshepi wanted to have some girly time with me today, and knowing them – I just had to take them to AROMA. There they were amazed by it & this little piece of heaven immediately crept into their hearts as it has mine. They so appreciated each and every detail. Liela & I both had coffee, but Tshepi who is a huge TEA lover, chose tea and was left in awe by their attention to detail & how special the tea box as well as the tea bag she was given was. She took the little box home and made us sign it. The atmosphere was incredible with the music playing in the background. We appreciated it all so much as it all comes together so well, setting a great mood/tone for us to catch up in and laugh and just relax. God has really blessed our friendship and He blessed us abundantly with this little place. We decided that we would definitely visit here once every two weeks or even weekly, to have our special girly time here. It was lovely, so special.

I also just wanted to mention how incredibly beautiful Tshepi & Elicia are, my heart-sisters…. When we get together, there is just so much peace, so much love, joy and SO MUCH FUN! We get crazy together and it really helps in difficult times like that which I’m in now. We really help focus each other and once we’ve had our time together and our prayer afterward..everything in our lives just seem to fall into place. We have such intimate moments together, just sharing life. We are 3 very close friends whom have just not been able to break apart and help carry each other. I am so grateful for that. And even though we differ so much in age, we seem to be on the same level in all we do… Tshepi being 25 is the oldest, Liela is always the middle, being 22 and I’m the youngest – 21. But our ‘oreo’ time and friendship means the world – a friendship that we’ll have forever.

So today, with them, at AROMA was just a special day, filling me with joy and such contentment… The AROMA left in my heart after today is just gratefulness, love, peace and an INCREDIBLE amount of joy…. An aroma that I don’t think will ever leave. As I discover new details at AROMA, so too in this friendship do we discover cool new details & my love for both this friendship & coffee roastery carries on growing.

Adventuring in the World

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

It has been a crazy month since I last posted. A lot has happened. Studies are going – quite busy and intense. But life is constantly rolling on.

In the past 3 or so weeks we have experienced snow for the first time in all 9 provinces in our country. It was a super cool day as EJ picked us up in the Leach-mobile and we drove through to East Gate Mall and played in the snow. My first time ever seeing snow and it was incredible! Afterwards we enjoyed a good cup of coffee before coming home.

In this time I also got to go watch the latest Batman movie with Chris and spent a night over at Liz’ place watching Olympics and just having deep conversations. Again, I must say, she has such a beautiful heart! Then I gave her paint, cloth and she could write her story with it. I’ve also had the opportunity of having breakfast with Mari since she’s been back and we also went shopping and had the car washed. I have had time to get involved at Doornkloof’s church with Chris and Mona and we now have a cell group called CRAVE.

I’ve spent time with some of my rugby mates and it has been awesome to just catch up over coffee, go support their games while others of them have really opened up their hearts to me and have also been such amazing spiritual warriors who themselves have picked me up and encouraged me through great conversations. They really have made an impact in the short time I’ve gotten to know them in my life without even knowing it. To those guys – Craig, Courtnall, Christopher & Jaco – thanks guys!

I’ve met amazing people through ECHO like Calvyn, Wacko, Karoo, Jaco & Marine. Soon I will be involved with Let’s Go Jozi. I have also spent some time with Christo & Daniel lately, they are from the other Intentional Living house and I have found such a deep respect for these two guys. They are just always willing to help and take on a new task with such great attitudes. They have now been facing a rough time and I owe them way more than I could ever thank them for. Christo as well, although only 20, he has a wisdom and love for God way beyond his years! The few moments over the 2 days that I got to spend with him, I really was humbled by his heart for God and love for people. Not only that, I learnt what it means to love unconditionally through a guy named Walter. I met him through Daniel and Christo, a guy about as old as my dad with such a great love for God and wanting to help people. He seems to see the good no matter how small in people and to focus on that, watering it with so much love that it can’t help but grow and be all that you see in that person! He really showers you with love…. I also had lunch with my aunt and sister and had time to spend a weekend with my other aunt, uncle and cousin which was lovely.

In the past week though, I have also witnessed a few other things. Wihann, Ani’s boyfriend and our good friend – was diagnosed with Cancer on Wednesday. He had his operation on Friday and it seems he doesn’t need Chemo which is great news. Ani was on her way back from WitRivier on Friday to see Wihann before his op and ended up in a car accident on the N4. Her car was written off but luckily she was okay with only a few cuts and bruises. There were numerous amounts of burglaries in areas that I visited as well as people who tried to break in to our house over the weekend. Talita, our housemate also showed us some footage and spoke to us about Human Trafficking. It really opened up our eyes to what really is going on in the world but also in our own country, police force and government. I really have a heart for helping the women and children who get trapped inside human trafficking, so this really has been on my mind a lot.

So although I have had a great time, a blessed time, there have also been really sad, tough and terrible times. But I want to encourage all of you to remain positive and keep praying. God is faithful and I have seen His hand in all the things I have experienced this last month. I have seen Him in people’s lives even though they might not be able to. He has the bigger picture and He is faithful. In these hard times, when we get stretched – we grow most. We are given the opportunity to grow, we just have to choose to take it. Our hard times can also be used to relate to others in similar situations or to help those who are going through what we have. Use those experiences to shed some light on the situations of others, use it to love people more. You’ll be surprised at the reactions you get. In the times that have been hard, I’ve learnt to surrender and God has come through each time, being so faithful.

Joshua 23v14: “Now I am about to go the way of all the earth. You know with all your heart and soul that not one of all the good promises the LORD your God gave you has failed. Every promise has been fulfilled; not one has failed.”
