Photo Shoots

932cf2d99fcd7e09e912d043c4a68a68In general, each of us have that one photo moment every now and then, that we wish we could just destroy or take back…. Capturing and forever remembering that one moment we regret or wish we could just completely forget… Don’t you just hate it when someone pulls out a photo, that to you looks so bad that you’d actually nearly attended therapy to try forget?! Ha. I’ve had a couple such moments.

Yet, as girls we still love photo shoots. Many of us would say, we hate being photographed… And yes we do… BUT, when it comes to being perfectly done up, hair, makeup and wardrobe sorted – very few of us are gona hate it… I mean it could be uncomfortable at first, but later it is kind of fun!

I have quite a couple of model friends and they totally love it, even though the industry is a tough one. But even if it’s not for a big company these could be fun. Even when you’re not getting paid. We have had a couple of shoots and have one coming up… And there is something nerve-racking about it but at the same time, it is soooo fun and a definite confidence booster…

c532b0312970f231d456615ecdca6796What is fun about it, is having the right photographer, which does make a huge difference. It is something I have noticed about a friend of mine who is a photographer. What is awesome about her doing our shoots, is the fact that she makes it fun and puts you at ease. She totally gets who you are and doesn’t push you into doing anything that isn’t comfortable. She also won’t try and make things look unnatural or photo shop it so much that you hardly recognize the person in the photo! She definitely encourages you to be yourself and love who you are and then captures that, which is so special and hard to find.

Especially since we aren’t into not being ourselves, real or natural. We don’t dig being portrayed as what we are not, or as these skinny photo shopped people who pressure our opinions of how we look onto others. We want people to love themselves and their bodies, the way they are. To embrace yourself the way you are is important…

deedefab2aac9e787a43356d5c3a0068And the wardrobe, makeup and hair should just be an extension of who you are, it should compliment you and your personality. Let it build your confidence and add to who you are. Not overshadow you or break you down in anyway! From now on, embrace any camera shot, and make it worth the moment. Don’t let regret or embarrassment rule and be what you remember.

In your next photo shoot or any camera shot, whether you’re dressing up or down – feel beautiful and enjoy it!!!

Overcome by His Peace

This morning I’m sitting at the airport here in Durban feeling more than just peaceful.

I feel overwhelmed by His great love for me and pursued as any princess & daughter of God should feel.

Last night before I fell asleep and this morning when I woke up for my 6.30 flight, I felt anxious. Not wanting to go home anymore and feeling quite nervous. I was truly dreading this flight and going home. And lonely I guess.

But this morning, everything at the airport went quickly, there was hardly any wait. The flight was smooth and it was absolutely gorgeous seeing the sun rise over the land as well as over the ocean this morning. I had no one sitting beside me except a very nice young lady and then some awesome loud and joking-around-kind-of-people behind me. I felt pursued as God showed me new things as the sun rose.

It was beautiful. The clouds were extremely flat looking like white sand as they reflected the sunlight in glorious colours of soft gold and pinks… It even looked like the parting of the Red Sea for the beginning of the journey and as if God was saying I should follow the Light across and journey into His rest. It all just felt so extremely symbolic.

I feel after a time of spiritual attack, I’m finally getting the chance to walk into a place of rest with Him and I’m feeling lighter and more peaceful today, than I have in a few weeks. I’m feeling peaceful and I have to admit, it feels good. God is great and I feel like I’m taking moments now to just soak in His complete rest, in a place He has prepared for me.

Exodus 23:
v 20  Behold, I send an Angel before you to keep and guard you on the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared.
v 21  Give heed to Him, listen to and obey His voice; be not rebellious before Him or provoke Him, for He will not pardon your transgression; for My Name is in Him.
v 22  But if you will indeed listen to and obey His voice and all that I speak, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and an adversary to your adversaries.

Dust + Light = Beauty

Grace can change anybody or anything. Any circumstance or situation. But I have seen it change people – the people we think are the worst of the worst. Grace and love has that power.

For me it looks a little like this:
Like the bit of light that comes shining through the window in the gap in the closed curtains when not closed properly. There’s that small gap of light shining in. If you’re sitting in the right place, you can see small little pieces of dust – tiny dust particles – that are flying around, but they almost look like little pieces of glitter or sparkle dancing around in the air and light.

The same goes with God. He is that light and we are the small dust particles that almost seem to sparkle while we dance in His Presence. But it’s those small pieces of sparkle that you can only see if you look carefully. And so it is with every ‘bad guy,’ with every person… If you look carefully, you can see that little bit of beauty, that little bit of hope, that little bit of Jesus in them… And you have to shine the light on that and focus on that. The more you do that, the more you focus on that beauty the more beautiful it becomes, and if that is how you see that person and you interact with them in a beautiful way building them up when you interact and speak to them as result of that bit of sparkle then maybe they too will see it…
God just needs to see that little bit of sparkle and to focus on it because that is all He sees.

I believe, that’s how He knew He’d make people from dust. A piece of dust and a little sparkle from the Light… Resulted in beauty… Now that’s love. That’s grace. That He could see so much potential in a small bit of dust, such a small moment of sparkle and can decide to create us… That He would choose us…. And if we could see that bit of sparkle in others, and show it to them, focusing on it… Then maybe they too will see it… Maybe then, they will choose Him too.

Pearls & Rainstorms

Pretoria-20130220-00564On an outreach back in December 2011, one of my friends, had God show him a picture of me. He shared the vision with me. A pearl. I never understood what it could mean to me until today.

The way in which a pearl is formed is a miraculous event in itself. A natural pearl begins its life as a foreign object, such as a parasite or piece of shell that accidentally lodges itself in an oyster’s soft inner body where it cannot be expelled. To ease this irritant, the oyster’s body takes defensive action. The oyster begins to secrete a smooth, hard crystalline substance around the irritant in order to protect itself. This substance is called “nacre.” As long as the irritant remains within its body, the oyster will continue to secrete nacre around it, layer upon layer. Over time, the irritant will be completely encased by the silky crystalline coatings. And the result, ultimately, is the lovely and lustrous gem called a pearl.

In Biblical times, the pearl was one of the most precious gems around. It is often used as a metaphor for something extraordinary. People knew how rare they were and how long it took for pearls to grow. With that, they realized  Things that are precious to us in life, can sometimes only be achieved through hardship and lessons learnt.pearl9

Late afternoon-early evening there was a storm and the wind came up and it was raining. It felt like it had come from no where and like it could be a storm to wreck everything. Afterwards though, the air was clean again and everything was refreshed. And there was a beautiful haze of colours in the sky as the sun set, prettier than I’ve ever seen it before. The whole sky looked like it was on fire. It was incredible. It was so amazing how after a bit of a storm, God allows for such blessing and beauty!!!

It happens after a storm, it happens in the forming of a pearl. And when that pearl has formed, God adds it to His glorious crown

The Fragrance & Petals of A Woman

It’s a brand new morning, very peaceful after some rain and a lot cooler than it has been the past few days. I’ve woken up after sleeping through my alarm, kind of missing my prayer time. Luckily for me, God is always there to listen. But I am glad God blessed me with an extra hour of sleep as my body is still trying to recover after Tuesday evening’s all-nighter. So now, I am feeling a whole lot better.

Anyway, a few weeks ago I read Proverbs 31. And God seems to be putting it on my heart again, reminding me of the Proverbs 31 woman.

He really is putting it on my heart to share about beauty and your heart. This post is basically for the ladies, but obviously the guys can read it too. Beauty really isn’t everything and I have had to learn that more times than I would have liked.

A guy who truly adores you and cares about you, isn’t going to care about the way you look. It’s great to get all dressed up when you go on a date, and taking care of yourself should be part of your normal routine as it shows you respect yourself. But that isn’t all there is to it. A guy who adores you isn’t going to care how pretty you try look every time he has to see you. It might be great and he might give you a compliment but even if he does that shouldn’t be your priority to trying to win his heart. He would fall in love with your personality and heart for God. He may first give you a glance because your hair looks good or you have a cute dress on, but if that’s what won his heart, he’ll be out the door or breaking you down at the first sign of crazy hair or the wrong colour painted nails.

Often beauty and the looking pretty can be a curse as guys think of other things they can get. IF you’re having to use looking pretty or dressing up just to get some attention, then you’re looking at the wrong type of guy. And what is even worse, is that once you’ve gone through all that trouble and he still doesn’t notice anything, you are left disappointed and sad. It isn’t dumb, but you are seeking the wrong kind of attention and expecting way more from the guy than he is necessarily able to give and in many ways that isn’t fair because that is dumping YOUR insecurity issues on him. The same goes with doing things for others. You shouldn’t have to grab his attention by doing millions of things for him as if he should owe you or as a way of proving yourself, because again, if you suddenly stop or for some reason can’t do all those things, then what is there for him to like if that was the basis of the relationship? You should be confident in yourself and just be yourself, all the actions in the world shouldn’t be the reason that he likes you, because then you risk being used and not truly loved.

The problem here is – you should be looking toward God for those things. God should be the one who makes you feel beautiful and lets you know it. For a year, God took me on a journey where He proved to me I was worthy and beautiful. It wasn’t because of my looks, it was because of my heart for Him and how I dedicated my time to Him and decided His opinion mattered more than any guy ever. In that time He used people to compliment me on my looks but on many other things too, He really showed me there is more to it all and that the guy who falls in love with me will be one who falls in love with me for more than just my petals, it would be because of my fragrance of love, grace and joy that is founded in Christ.

That’s why I am reminded of the Proverbs 31 woman.  So what is she? She is a blessing to those who know her. Her strong character and industrious spirit give where others only take. She doesn’t expect anything back, not even a ‘thank you’. Her focus is never on herself, but on God and because of that, she isn’t easily offended. She is also not offended if others play or sleep while she has works. Her gift to those around her is her undying love for God, which takes her out of herself and gives her the confidence to create opportunities to prosper. Everything that she does, she does for the love of God and because of that the people He has entrusted her with are well cared for. She is able, by the help of God, to do more than the average person could do because she doesn’t rely on her own strength but on His. When stress or worry rears its ugly head, she quickly looks the other way and returns to her purpose on earth: to serve her living God and NOT her emotions. She speaks with wisdom that comes from her faith in God and His Holy Spirit.

Her words encourage and admonish and NEVER belittle or despise. They are always coloured with her love of God. She isn’t afraid of teaching others the truth of Scripture because she is so confident in it herself. She is tireless in her efforts to serve the living God because she draws her power from Him daily. People are amazed at her tenacity and ability to overcome even the most difficult situations. She finds truth in the Word of God and application for her daily life, looking for answers to life’s hard questions in its pages.  Her life is enviable, not because of its earthly success but because of its heavenly success. Peace, hope and love are hers, and because of that others call her, like the women who have come before her, blessed.

So true beauty and then love from anyone for you won’t come from your service to that person or how pretty you try looking, it comes from your heart for God and serving Him and not your emotions. It all comes from God and being gentle and compassionate in your spirit. Not from trying to prove yourself or that you are worthy, not breaking others down with your negative words and pointing out how others are always doing something wrong or not the way you would do it. It comes from loving and accepting others, keeping quiet instead of deciding to say something negative. It comes from never giving up or being afraid of doing good to others. It is all biblical principles.

Your heart for God should be the attraction and the fragrance of Him that you leave behind, not the mask or petals you have on.

Proverbs 31v10-31

Epilogue: The Wife of Noble Character

10 [b]A wife of noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than rubies.
11 Her husband has full confidence in her
and lacks nothing of value.
12 She brings him good, not harm,
all the days of her life.
13 She selects wool and flax
and works with eager hands.
14 She is like the merchant ships,
bringing her food from afar.
15 She gets up while it is still night;
she provides food for her family
and portions for her female servants.
16 She considers a field and buys it;
out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.
17 She sets about her work vigorously;
her arms are strong for her tasks.
18 She sees that her trading is profitable,
and her lamp does not go out at night.
19 In her hand she holds the distaff
and grasps the spindle with her fingers.
20 She opens her arms to the poor
and extends her hands to the needy.
21 When it snows, she has no fear for her household;
for all of them are clothed in scarlet.
22 She makes coverings for her bed;
she is clothed in fine linen and purple.
23 Her husband is respected at the city gate,
where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.
24 She makes linen garments and sells them,
and supplies the merchants with sashes.
25 She is clothed with strength and dignity;
she can laugh at the days to come.
26 She speaks with wisdom,
and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
27 She watches over the affairs of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
28 Her children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
29 “Many women do noble things,
but you surpass them all.”
30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
31 Honour her for all that her hands have done,
and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.

God’s Hand-Writing

Never lose an opportunity of seeking something beautiful, for beauty is God’s hand-writing – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Life can be absolutely beautiful. It is beautiful. In a negative world, each day should still be beautiful. Take a moment as much as possible, just to seek some beauty and acknowledge it. Thank God for it. There really are so many incredible things to see, hear and feel. God basically hands it to us on a silver platter, we just need to take the time to look and say thank you for it. Sometimes, we need to seek a little further than usual to find the beauty, but it is there – we just need to find it and then when we do – appreciate it. So where ever you are, whatever you are doing… take a look around you and open the treasure chest where beauty lies waiting. It may be simple or complex. But God’s hand-written note of love will be waiting there just for you. It will be magical and glorious. So dive into that moment, make the best of it, keep it to yourself or share it (it is usually more fun to share it – it becomes even more beautiful then) and just say ‘Thank You’.

For every Woman, as You are Special!

Here is a prayer that each woman can pray, as you step into the authority Christ has given you. A prayer in which you start believing in God’s promises and asking Him to help you.

Thank You for Your faithfulness & that You create everything beautiful. From today & forever more, may I always feel beautiful. Acting & thinking beautiful. Having beautiful thoughts that always leads to smiling & can’t be avoided. May I move with & in grace, being alluring & captivating. May I walk with confidence as I know & believe I am loved, accepted & desired by You. As I walk in this truth, may I always feel secure, thus being decisive & strong – leaning into each moment. Help me to believe in my passions, abilities & gifts. Allow me to be peaceful & assured as I give off that fragrance. May I always posses an unshakeable hope that allows me to turn away from the past & look towards the future. Allow me to hear Your words of promise & rebuke words of unbelief & fear, therefore trusting in the devotion I have found in You. May my hope always be & remain steadfast as I believe & know I am rescued & held in Your Arms. Help me step into the authority given through You so I can be a woman of Your light & incredible fragrance. All this, under the Blood of the Lamb, I ask.
