Homemade Lip Balms

Here are a few different lip balms you could make at home. I really dig some of them but know we all have different tastes & needs. Pick one or all of them to try out.

1. Luscious Lavender Lip Balm
This really calms your chapped lips & smells really good.
Ingredients
4 tbsp jojoba, almond or olive oil
1 tbsp grated beeswax or beeswax pearls
1 tsp honey
1/4 tsp vitamin E oil(or 3 punctured & squeezed out liquid of vitamin E capsules)
7 drops lavender essential oil
1 tsp cocoa powder
1 tsp coloured, natural lipstick(this is optional & only to add some colour)
Preparation
Warm up the oils, beeswax & honey in a small, stainless steel pot or bowl on VERY low heat. Stir until the beeswax is completely melted. Remove from heat & quickly whisk in the essential oil, vitamin E, cocoa powder & coloured lipstick. Place the bottom of the bowl into a shallow pan of ice water & continue whisking quickly as you add the honey. Once it is incorporated, quickly transfer the balm into a lip balm container or whatever you want to store it in & allow it to set for 3 hours.

2. Coco-Rosey Lip Balm
If you want something smelling like roses, this is the one. It leaves your lips light, sweet, soft & beautiful.
Ingredients
2 tbsp coconut oil
1 tbsp grated cocoa butter
1 tbsp dried rosebuds
1/4 tsp vitamin E oil(3 punctured, squeezed out vitamin E capsules)
3 drops rose essential oil
Preparation
On VERY low heat, melt the coconut oil in a small stainless steel bowl or pot. After the oil is liquid, add your roses & stir well. Allow to steep again on very low heat for an hour. Strain the oil into a bowl through a fine-mesh sieve or cheese cloth. Wipe out your original heating pot/bowl, pour oil back in & return to heat. Add cocoa butter & stir until melted. Remove from heat, add the vitamin E oil & essential oil & stir well. Transfer to a small container & let it set for 3 hours(or until it has set completely).

3. Minty Chocolate Lip Balm
Ingredients
1 tbsp grated beeswax or beeswax pearls
1/8 of a cup of coconut oil
1/2 tbsp shea butter
1/2 tbsp cocoa butter
1/2 tsp honey
1 tsp cocoa powder
1/8 tsp vitamin E oil(2 punctured, squeezed out vitamin E capsules)
3 drops peppermint essential oil
Preparation
Place the shea & cocoa butters in a small pot & add the coconut oil. Heat over VERY low heat for 20 mins, stirring occasionally. Add the beeswax & stir well. After the beeswax has completely melted, remove the mixture from the heat & add the essential oil, honey, vitamin E & cocoa powder, whisking well the whole time. After everything is incorporated & smooth, transfer into a small container & let it set for 3 hours.

4. Coconut Lip Balm
I love the smell & taste of coconut – so this one is a favourite of mine. It is also a great balm for the beach as it really takes care of your lips in the harsh sun.
Ingredients
2 tbsp beeswax
2 tbsp coconut oil
2 tbsp shea butter
12 lip balm containers
A dropper
Optional – add 5-10 drops of your favourite essential oil or your favourite flavouring, such as chocolate or vanilla exctract.
Preparation
Melt beeswax in a small pan over low heat. Add coconut oil & shea butter, melting the ingredients together. Add your essential oils in. Using a small medicinal dropper, pour the melted liquid into your lip balm containers. Add a few extra drops to the top after filling each container, as the ingredients will shrink as they cool. Cool completely to harden. Cover with cap & use as you please.

5. Honey Lip Balm
Honey is such a yummy flavour & sweet but also keeps your lips in tip top shape. The really cool thing is you’ll be able to lick it without worrying about any chemicals.
Ingredients
4 tbsp beeswax, grated or finely chopped
2 tbsp coconut oil
5-10 drops essential oil(of your choice)
2 tsp honey
Preparation
Put some water in a pot(about 1 & a half cups) & bring to the boil. Once boiling, place the grated beeswax & coconut oil in a glass container with a pouring spout(a small glass measuring cup will do fine) & put it in the water, double-broiler style. As the wax & oil melt, stir the mixture with a metal spoon to fully incorporate the two. Once they’re completely melted, remove the glass container from the water(you’ll want to use oven mittens) & set on a flat, heat-safe work surface. Pour your essential oil of choice & the honey & stir well. Pour the mixture into your selected container. It will be ready for use when it has all solidified.

6. Chocolate Lip Balm
Ingredients
3 tbsp cocoa butter
4 or 5 chocolate chips
1 capsule vitamin E
Preparation
Melt all ingredients in a double boiler, & then blend with a spoon until the mixture is very smooth. Put it into a container of your choice & refrigerate until solid.

7. Vanilla Lip Balm
Ingredients
1 tbdp grated beeswax
1 tbsp coconut oil
1/8 tsp vitamin E oil (2 capsules punctured, squeezed out)
1/8 tsp vinalla extract(vanilla essence)
Preparation
Place the beeswax, coconut oil & vitamin E oil in an oven proof container. Heat gently until the wax & oils are melted. Stir in vanilla exctract & mix well. Pour the mixture into a clean container & allow to cool completely before using.

Those are just a few simple balms to keep you & your lips happy & healthy!
